I started my career, intending to be a teacher (a very long time ago!), but soon discovered my passion for both marketing and the hospitality industry.  Funny how my career has evolved to integrate teaching with my hotel marketing business experience.

Marketing was the perfect career choice for me as I discovered I loved to combine creative problem solving with a commercial lens.  My approach is always to keep things simple and execute quickly.  In marketing, I believe we need to get more comfortable with test & learn, not wait for perfection.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve loved gaining insights about customers and cultures across the Asia Pacific region, having lived and worked in Sydney, Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai and Hong Kong. 

Through my various roles supporting hotels around the region including as Vice President Marketing for Anantara Hotels & Resorts, and Vice President Brand Management AMEA for IHG, I’ve worked on developing and promoting many types of hotel brands…..established international brands, new brands, boutique brands, resort brands, and brands in need of repositioning.

Since starting my own business, Brand Journey, I’ve also enjoyed working with marketing teams within a number of unique hotel brands, as well as other experience-based brands.

Whichever the hotel brand, it’s always amazing to weave a brand’s unique personality into the end-to-end guest journey and see a hotel team which truly understands its hotel brand, bring this experience to life for guests. Whether it be through the creative promotion of the brand, perfect partnerships, or during the guest’s stay.

Through my career, I have naturally found myself mentoring marketers, both those I work with as well as others I’ve met through my network. I truly enjoy seeing others learn and discover their strengths and career interests.

Hence I’ve evolve my business to focus on supporting the professional development of early-to-mid career marketers, so they can determine and achieve their own marketing career goals.

As a passionate learner and an ISTP (for those who know Myers Briggs), one of my goals was to complete my Doctor of Business Administration in International Business (DBA), though which I chose to write my dissertation on ‘Marketing Skills for the Next Generation of Hospitality Marketing Leaders’.
